Fear.
What in the hell is it?!
Does it control ME?
Interesting right? When you really take an inventory on what fear costs us in all areas of our lives. Seriously. Take a moment and just consider all of the things you've ever WANTED to do, be, where you've wanted to go... the things you WERE going to do, should have done, WISH you could do... *(can you hear the 'clock' ticking?). The reality is, you CAN be, do and have all of those things IF and WHEN you are prepared to face your fears head on. You see, fear is a reaction- COURAGE is a DECISION. There's that word again- D.E.C.I.S.I.O.N. Understand, absolutely nothing will happen if you are so scared that you analyze things to death, procrastinate, evaluate, consider... these are all terms that boil down to the exact same thing- FEAR. Whether it's real or imagined doesn't even matter- the FEAR FACTOR has become a deeply ingrained way of thinking, believing and behaving that has become to define your personal boundaries and limiting beliefs. So... let's for a minute ask ourselves what are we so fearful of? For pretty much all of us it's the exact same criteria and sounds something like this;
- "What if I fail?"
- "I am not good enough, smart enough, handsome/pretty, funny, connected..."
- "I'll lose the respect of my friends and family if I fail"
- "I'll look stupid"
- "When I have the money"
- "Who am I to think I could/should/would do something like that?"
-"I don't have the training or experience"
- "I'm too young, too old"
-"I'll do it when... I have enough money, the right situation, the right partner, situation..."
Does this describe you? Are you being honest? Are you living what I call 'The Loop' which is the same day, week, month, year over and over (and over) again?! "I'll do it next year"... well I say 'Bullshit!' Start to OWN IT and start TODAY!
So... what is my QUICK TIP to confront your fear? Start small and start today- make a DECISION (see, there's that word again) and make it a committed decision to take a step toward making a change. Only YOU will know what that change needs to be because it's the one you've been putting off again and again and again. It might be telling someone how you feel, taking steps to plan a career transition instead of complaining over and over again, buying that income property, taking that trip... whatever the fear is, do what I tell my 11 year old son- the way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time- that made sense to him and he laughed at the simplicity. There... make it SIMPLE, don't overthink and have FAITH that when you take that first step in the direction of the best YOU that the next steps will appear.
Will you feel FEAR? Absolutely but guess what, on the OTHER SIDE of fear is where all the good stuff is and where your BEST SELF is waiting!
This goes deep, I realize, and that's what THINKING INTO RESULTS will confront and challenge and rebuild in a way that serves you.
